  301. Hmm... I use uud version 3.3, which I got from atari.archive ages ago
  302. (back when it was still terminator) - have had absolutely no trouble
  303. with it at all.  I have had problems with .lzh files - sometimes I
  304. have to juggle around to find a version of lharc that will unpack a
  305. particular file.
  306.  
  307. I don't know if uud has much in the way of error checking - it lets me
  308. know if it doesn't find the next file, but that's about it.  Could it
  309. be that your comm link to wherever you read Usenet is flaky?

  346. For a long...... time now. I have the source code to both it and uue
  347. and they both compiled very nicely under the current (here anyway)

  376. you're having.

  378. I've found uud quite reliable except for one instance, and that
  379. involved files from BART (atari.archive.umich.edu) that had bizarre
  380. filenames.

  448. most of the "other" uucico packages are based on the uupc project started
  449. by some folks at van-bc which in turn was based on lamb's dcp code.  A
  450. few years ago, I got the ST port of uupc working but it had a hard
  451. time keeping up with 1200 baud and failed at 2400 baud.  The mercury uucico
  452. run just fine at 9600 baud via a trailblazer t2500 modem.
  453.  
  454. If I was going to take on the job of porting a uucp package, I'd port andrew
  455. derbyshire's(?) rework of uupc for dos and os/2.  he has fixed protocol
  456. bugs, code bugs, improved performance and added a good mail package.
  457. Currently it punts on news but I'm sure it hermes could fix that.
  458.  
  459. andrew's uupc requires an ansi compliant compiler to handle the
  460. function prototyping and other ansi-ish quirks.  Sounds like a job for
  461. GCC!! :-)   Other trouble points include how unix file names are translated
  462. into dos/tos file names and how files are spooled.
  463.  
  464. IMHO, other uucico packages would be more difficult to port and provide
  465. a less reliable implementation of UUCP.  The one exception would be VMS
  466. UUCP which is a very good implementation of UUCP that is only hard to
  467. port because it is hardwired to VMS.

  490. I bought Rings Of Medusa off someone off the net last month but she couldn't
  491. find the docs for it...I've understand most of the game through trial and
  492. error...but one thing I haven't got a clue on is gambling.

  495. mean?  By random luck I can beat the computer and make enough money for a small
  496. army...but I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain the rules of the

  562. Speaking of Ethernet, I see on the .forsale groups that Mac SCSI <->
  563. Ethernet interfaces are fairly cheap ($400.00 U.S. or so).   Does
  564. anybody anywhere support this (these ???) board for the ST?  It would
  565. be by far the best solution for me.

  585.   I just recently got a bunch of old ST motherboards. 3 are revision B, and
  586. also 1 each of revisions C & D. Do they all have TOS V1.0 on them? I know my
  587. old revision B boardd does. Also, is there a program which will identify OS
  588. version, etc. I couldn't find anything immediate.

  590.   In addition, could someone please tell me the differences between these
  591. revisions, especially since the D seems quite different from the B & C models.
